Heat
The Heat is on today record heat in L.A. today it is like being in Florida when you walk out side it is sooooo hot today so stay in and keep cool until the night time. I recommend Powerade or some type of Lemonade to cool you off if you have no AC stay in the shade!

A lot of people have been asking me How to Create a Portfolio of your Work
Today I have to print a ton of photos somewhere around 40 I think, If you are a photographer and wondering about putting together a “book” or when people say to you Let me see your portfolio or book I will tell you how to put together your Portfolio. How to make a photography Portfolio. The standard Size for this is 11 by 14 that is 11 inches by 14 inches you want to have your images printed on gloss paper the standard cost for this is 30 dollars a print so make your book as big as you can afford some photographers will spend upwards of 10,000 dollars on there portfolios,I know for a lot of people that seems crazy but if it gets you a job for 100,000 it is worth it now if your just starting out and you don’t have many shots you should focus on shooting more before putting a book together but if you have to have one…Start out with a simple black book double page horizontal photos are great.
Pick your best 20 images and start with that if you have never had a book less is more.
Here is what a normal one looks like Portfolio
But if you want to get a lil more fancy there is always this style but I think Simple is best Screpost
And here is the link to where you can buy these online Online Portfolio
Click here to read more about this and ask me anything you like…
What color is it?

September 1st, 2007 at 1:57 pm
Hey tyler, a few pro artists i know use Pictopia.com for their lab printing services… the regular 11×14 is $13, while the super gloss is $17.
Try it out, i’ve seen some pretty good results from it.
September 1st, 2007 at 1:58 pm
Hey Tyler. Man, I love your work. Have to bartend tonight at my job at the Magic Castle. And of course it’s the slow bar downstairs…well, in the basement practically, which mean’s I’ll make close to nothing in tips. Oh well…my day is going fine, so far. How are you? Let’s see…I think the song of the day, and it actually just popped into my head is “Couldn’t Love You More”, by Sade. It’s on her Love Deluxe album, which is a great one. Hope everything is good with you. Have a good weekend. Peace. Jerry.
September 1st, 2007 at 2:32 pm
This is really helpful, thanks Tyler. I love your work.
September 1st, 2007 at 2:35 pm
How is it that you “find” (find isnt the right word but its the first that comes to mind) who /where to submit a portfolio in order to start booking work?
September 1st, 2007 at 2:45 pm
thanks tyler! those tips really help, i need to start one soon.
my song of the day is “Watch Me Fall Apart” by Hard-fi
how’ve you been tyler?
September 1st, 2007 at 3:03 pm
Ashton you can start by emailing people asking friends if they know anyone get referals from people u know
September 1st, 2007 at 3:45 pm
a bit off topic, but in reference to the heat my father (up in Pasadena) asked how we were faring down in W. Hollywood. I said “it’s like waiting for the train, absolutely no breeze down in the subway station and stale air, the middle of summer in NYC and the train is vereeee late.” it’s just ridiculous out for Southern California.
i love the approach you have on here. talking to everyone, offering tips. it’s so nice to see someone who is obviously successful in this city who knows/is friends with celebrities but is the antithesis of what most are like. it’s refreshing. and i’m a native, i’ve seen the gamut!
September 1st, 2007 at 4:12 pm
It’s quite a bit cooler up here in Colorado, but the information about the portfolio is just as helpful
Thanks a ton for the info!

i already have a few portfolio’s like that, but i could never find the brushed alluminum one, so thank you for recommending the website. you’re website has come along way since you’ve started, and are you coming out with anymore books? also, the number by your signature in the first book, does that mean the number out of how many printed? i figured it does, but you never know. song of the day - “a wolf in sheep’s clothing” - This Providence. Check it out. also, i know you will never give out your secrets on your style of shooting, but are you using a high intensity light to create such harsh black and white value? thanks.
September 1st, 2007 at 5:21 pm
yes if you have one of those u got a limited edition book i only signed 1000
September 1st, 2007 at 9:38 pm

Saw Modest Mouse on Tuesday. Worked through the week……….until this weekend - when I decided to collect enough extension cords to put a tv and dvd player in the woods by a fire pit. David Lynch is amazing all by himself, but set the atmosphere and you’re ready to make the world’s best disco ball!
At home on a Saturday night with Sarah - my BEST friend. I can tell her the ANYTHING and she’s with me. It’s art 24/7……….and that means I’m moving to Scotland. Woo hoo.
September 1st, 2007 at 10:36 pm

my dad had this old 35mm nikon from the 70’s that takes AMAZING pictures, but something’s wrong, it keeps eating up batteries really fast, and film is just too expensive.
September 1st, 2007 at 10:40 pm

It was fun but six hour drives, with unloading boxes staying in an uncomfortable hotel room, all this after being sick all week haha.
Ehh it wasn’t that bad, when I wasn’t driving I was sleeping. I didn’t get to take a whole lot of photos cause I was soo busy, that was rather crummy…but I did color a few pictures while I was in the car haha.

This photo is always lovely to look at.
Oh man. South florida is ridiculous.
I was on my way out to buy some things I need and as soon as I went in my car, I decided I’d rather not become dehydrated due to indispensible things so I went back inside my house.
It’s rather on the hot side. By hot I mean hell. =/

I use to have an Lost-Luggage Ice Nine portfolio but when my apartment got broken into I lost everything, photos, back ups of the files, and my portfolio. I am starting all over again trying to build up my equipment and get something going but its hard when all you have is an old Nikon D100 that has dead pixels when you’re use to having studio lights and wireless slaves and reflectors…I should be getting some new equipment soon with this new job I am starting.
